BEFORE THE RECORDAN EVIDENCE ATLAS
THE EVIDENCE LAB / VERSION 4

Open data. Visible limits.

The same constraints shown on screen, ready to inspect and reuse.

Processing & provenance

Exports are derived from the fifteen bundled case records. BCE dates are mapped to calendar BP using the 1950 datum. Ranges retain their stated meanings: site spans, dated samples, minimum ages and competing contexts are distinct. Missing upper bounds are null. Approximate estimates keep their approximate labels.

GeoJSON contains rounded published coordinates only. Regional and sensitive locations have null geometry. Publication links and support summaries are included; the export does not grant rights to reproduce third-party figures or Indigenous knowledge.

Environmental integration plan

Candidate sources: NOAA’s paleoclimate archive for proxy records and reconstructions, and PALEO-PGEM for model-based deep-time climate estimates. These are discovery sources, not layers already integrated into this atlas.

Before activation, each layer needs a version, license, temporal and spatial resolution, uncertainty description, processing history and validation. Smooth animation must not conceal gaps between time slices. A mobility model additionally needs terrain and water-crossing costs, seasonal assumptions, barrier models and sensitivity tests. Carrying capacity and occupation density remain unmodeled.

Propose a research update

Create a review packet for the atlas maintainer. Downloading does not submit it; a server-backed moderation inbox is not connected.

Classroom & kiosk use

Use Detective mode’s focused fullscreen view and the browser’s print command for a lesson. Begin with an observation, write a falsifiable next test, reveal the record’s limitation, and compare two cases. Press Escape to leave fullscreen. This release requires network access for cited publications and does not include offline caching or audio narration.

Interface revision / 7 November 2026

V4 adds explicit evidence chains, preservation thought experiments, three investigation depths, source-bearing exports and downloadable review packets. These are interface and data-structure changes, not new archaeological discoveries. See the revision record and White Sands scholarly chronology for the existing distinction between interface revisions and research history.
